Mary Washington Asparagus
Dig a trench 8 inches deep. Roots should be laid flat in bottom of trench with crown upright in middle with roots spread evenly in each directions. Place crowns in trench 12-24 inches apart on slight mounds of soil, making the crowns higher than the roots. Cover with 2-3 inches of soil. Firm down. As plants grow, more soil should be added. Harvest when spears are 5-9 inches tall by breaking off at soil level.
